Chicago Abortion Fund Marks Abortion Wins from Midterm Elections
CHICAGO, IL – November 4, 2026 – The Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF) celebrates nationwide abortion access wins from last night’s midterm elections, including:
Establishing the right to abortion in the Nevada and Virginia state constitutions, an important step towards protecting abortion access in the ever-changing political landscape.
Rejection of a constitutional amendment in Missouri that would prohibit abortion and gender affirming care for young people.
Pro-abortion candidates taking control of gubernatorial seats in states across the country, and the election of Governor JB Pritzker to a third term here in Illinois.
Democratic control of the United States Senate and House.
We are also marking a loss in the abortion landscape:
Results on Idaho’s Proposition 1 continue limited or no access to abortion in the state despite already existing severe shortages of OBGYNs in the state.
Statement from Megan Jeyifo, Chicago Abortion Fund Executive Director:
“As the largest independent abortion fund in the country, CAF helps 20,000 patients from over 40 states access care each year. The results of elections across the country are not merely a symbolic victory or loss for the abortion access movement as a whole – they directly impact our work and the lives of the many people we serve.
That’s why I’m grateful to see the results of the elections across the country last night that affirm what we already knew – people want to vote for candidates who promise to fight for abortion access. I’m particularly proud of abortion amendment results in Nevada, Virginia, and Missouri, which protect abortion access on a constitutional level.
Illinois is proof of the importance of having pro-abortion representatives at every level of government, and I’m excited to continue working with our legislators on strengthening abortion access in Illinois. For people seeking abortions today, these victories offer hope. For people who have already had abortions, they offer hope that one day, others won't have to navigate the same barriers they faced. This is the future we're fighting for: one where everyone can access abortion care safely, with dignity, and close to home.
However, we’re also mourning a loss today in Idaho. Anti-abortion policies do not stop abortions from happening – they simply pass the burden onto the most vulnerable people in that state and force them to travel to receive healthcare. CAF will continue to offer support for anyone relying on Illinois for the abortion care they’re unable to access at home and will support efforts to reverse restrictive abortion bans and restore access across the country."
