Summary of Position

The Director of Major Gifts will play an integral role in CAF’s department of Development expanding upon individual giving, focusing on major gifts and planned giving. This seasoned and strategic fundraiser will operate with autonomy to not only manage, but also grow CAF’s portfolio of high-capacity donors. The Director of Major Gifts will also build off of the existing infrastructure and strategy needed to secure six and seven-figure commitments that will help sustain CAF’s impact for decades to come. Given that the Director of Major Gifts is a new role starting during a time of transition for the organization, it is intended that this role will grow into the outlined essential job functions. 

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Starting salary range: $92,829 to $126,065 (based on experience and qualifications).

  • All full-time employees are eligible for the full benefits package including: 

    • 401K with up to 5% employer match. 

    • Unlimited paid time off, including a mandatory four weeks off. 

    • Paid parental leave.

Work schedule

  • A full-time work week at CAF is defined as a minimum of 32 hours over four days. This may change in the future.

  • Illinois residence is required by the start of employment. Work is partially remote. A minimum of 2 days in the office. The office is in the West Loop. This may change in the future.

Essential Job Functions:

Major Gifts and Planning Giving Program (approximately 90%)

  • Serve as a strategic leader of the major gifts and planned giving program in partnership with the Senior Director of Development, managing a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, as well as managing the portfolios of the Senior Director of Development, Deputy Director and Executive Director. 

  • Design, implement, and evaluate individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to grow philanthropic revenue. 

  • Partner with executive leadership and board members to advance major gift and planned giving asks and continue to strengthen the organization’s fundraising culture. 

  • Personally solicit and close major and planned gifts, maintaining a revenue goal of at least $1-2 million. 

  • Identify and qualify new major donor prospects, expanding the organization’s base of transformational investors. 

  • Provide thought leadership in donor engagement strategy, leveraging organizational milestones, campaigns, and impact data.

  • Collaborate across departments to align funding opportunities with programmatic priorities and articulate a compelling case for support. 

  • Produce and deliver high-quality briefing materials for leadership, ensuring well-prepared, donor centered engagement. 

  • Represent the organization externally with sophistication, serving as an ambassador in donor meetings, events, and community settings. 

  • • Maintain rigorous pipeline and portfolio management through timely documentation, forecasting, and reporting. 

  • Mentor and model best practices for development team members, contributing to a culture of accountability, excellence, and collaboration. 

  • Operate with a high degree of independence, exercising sound judgment and discretion in donor relationships and strategic decision-making.

Other (approximately 10%)

  • Works pro-actively and in good faith to support and strengthen the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization. 

  • Co-create and maintain a culture that fosters deep collaboration, trust, and coordination across functional organizational areas. 

  • Maintains a collaborative, positive, professional and friendly approach to working with supervisor, other staff, grantees, and external stakeholders. 

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required staff communications. 

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by CAF, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations as relevant to the role.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in major gifts, capital campaigns, and planned giving with high-level of autonomy. 

  • Proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals and family foundations. 

  • Exceptional relationship management skills with the ability to inspire confidence, trust, and enthusiasm among high-net-worth donors, board members, and senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated success in building and managing a high-performing portfolio of 100–150+ donors/prospects, with clear revenue outcomes. 

  • Sophisticated understanding of philanthropic strategy, donor psychology, and complex giving vehicles (planned giving, DAFs, family foundations, etc.). 

  • Excellent strategic thinking and planning abilities with the capability of designing and executing donor engagement strategies aligned with organizational goals. 

  • Strong executive presence and polished communication skills. 

  • Ability to craft compelling proposals, deliver persuasive presentations, and represent the organization at the highest levels. 

  • Data-driven approach with proficiency in donor pipeline management, forecasting, and CRM systems. 

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with executive leadership to align funding opportunities with programmatic priorities. 

  • High degree of independence, sound judgment, and discretion in handling sensitive donor information and decision-making. 

  • Commitment to mentoring, modeling best practices, and contributing to a culture of excellence within the development team. 

  • Passion for the mission and ability to articulate a compelling case for transformational philanthropy.

Summary of Position

The Director of Helpline Partnerships reports to the Senior Director of Programs and is responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight for CAF’s external facing programmatic infrastructure and complex care programs. The key responsibilities include managing CAF’s relationships with clinical partners, logistical support vendors, and external research partners. The Director of Helpline Partnerships supervises manager-level staff and, when needed, coordinator-level staff, and is responsible for ensuring CAF’s complex care programs, research projects, and related partnerships are efficient, compassionate, and grounded in reproductive justice values. This role plays a critical function in shaping CAF’s programmatic partnerships while continuously improving systems to meet the evolving needs of abortion seekers across the country. 

The Director of Helpline Partnerships is a new position created during a time of transition for the organization, and it is intended to grow into the outlined essential job functions.

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Starting salary range: $92,829 -$114,604  (based on experience and qualifications).

Essential Job Functions:

Programs Oversight and Development (approximately 35%)

  • Ensure smooth and seamless daily helpline operations, including vendor and tool usage and caseload balance for support coordinators

  • Oversee management of CAF’s logistical support partnership network, including lodging, transportation, childcare, and related services, ensuring coordination centers caller experience and safety.

  • Partner with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot barriers and ensure callers receive timely, compassionate logistical support.

  • Translate findings from research partnerships into program changes, policy recommendations, and internal learning, collaborating with relevant departments on strategic program design and vision.

  • Identify gaps and opportunities in the regional care ecosystem and lead development of new initiatives, partnerships, or workflows in response.

Complex Care Program Oversight (approximately 15%)

  • Shape the long-term vision for CAF’s hospital partnerships, logistical support systems, and complex care infrastructure (in collaboration with leadership team)

  • Collaborate with relevant clinical and municipal stakeholders, as well as internal departments, to further the mission of the complex care program. 

  • Oversee care coordination for callers who require complex abortion care, working to ensure seamless navigation across internal teams and external health systems.

  • Develop and refine protocols for complex case escalation and care coordination in collaboration with the Director of Helpline Services and support of Program Managers.

Research & Strategic Partnerships (approximately 15%)

  • Oversee external research collaborations, ensuring alignment with CAF’s mission, values, and ethical standards.

  • Work collaboratively with partners to identify emerging needs, barriers, and opportunities for increased access and improved care.

  • Manage relationships with external clinical and research staff, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring timely information-sharing, program alignment, and strong referral pathways.

  • Build strategic relationships with partners, funders, researchers, and community stakeholders to expand CAF’s influence, collaboration, and reach.

  • Support both the Complex Care Program Manager and the Research and Community Care Program Manager in implementing research projects, managing relationships with academic partners, and contributing to data-driven program improvement.

  • Represent CAF in external strategy groups, coalitions, advisory bodies, and collaborative initiatives related to complex care and logistical support for abortion access.

Collaboration & Logistics Coordination (approximately 15%)

  • Lead coordination of vendor contracts;  serve as main point of contact for collaboration and logistics with travel and clinical partnerships

  • Maintain partnerships with external partners to strengthen referral networks and collaborative initiatives.

  • Partner with the operations department to ensure seamless coordination of patient travel and support services.

    • Support with troubleshooting communication, billing, and other issues.

    • Ensure implementation of CAF policies and practices across service delivery teams, including but not limited to data protection and confidentiality.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate research, evaluation, and program learnings into service design.

  • Work closely with the Director of Helpline Services to manage relationships with grantees and relevant leadership pipeline consultants to strengthen helpline partnerships.

Support Team Management (approximately 15%)

  • Supervise, coach, and support the Complex Care Manager, Research and Community Care Program Manager and coordinator-level program staff.

  • Steward internal leadership pipelines by developing and supporting opportunities for professional growth and leadership among manager and coordinator-level program staff.

  • Drive the development of a healthy team culture grounded in deep collaboration, trust, curiosity, equity, feedback, and sustainability.

  • Lead annual planning, goal setting, and evaluation processes for service delivery teams alongside the Director of Helpline Services.

Other (approximately 5%)

  • Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness of CAF’s mission and services.

  • Act as a public spokesperson as needed in media, conferences, and convenings.

  • Works pro-actively and in good faith to support and strengthen the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization.

  • Actively participate in required internal and external meetings, and respond in a timely manner to CAF staff communications.

  • Participates proactively to fulfill staff duties, including making every effort to meet deadlines.

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by CAF and professional organizations as relevant to your role.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in program leadership, direct service operations, and/or team management

  • Deep commitment to reproductive justice, abortion access, and values-aligned support systems

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and grow mid-level managers and direct service staff

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience working in trauma-informed environments and/or providing emotional support

  • Comfortable with digital systems and platforms (Airtable, Google Suite, CRM tools, etc.)

  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented; able to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities

  • Strong critical thinking skills and solutions-focused approach; anticipates needs and follows through with sound judgment

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, adaptive, responsive, and able to make strategic decisions

Summary of Position

The Caller Support & Follow Up Manager leads post-abortion engagement and care, including follow-up systems, emotional support programs, and leadership pathways for grantees.

The Caller Support & Follow Up Program Manager reports to the Director of Service Delivery and is responsible for leading CAF’s post-abortion engagement and sustained support programming. This role is focused on deepening relationships with grantees and people who have had abortions, beyond their appointment windows. The Caller Support & Follow Up Program Manager will design, oversee, and regularly attend CAF’s Community Circle programming for people who have had abortions, create community connection, and support in executing meaningful leadership pathways for other people who have had abortions. This role includes supervision of Support Coordinators, engaged case management, facilitation of emotional support offerings, and supporting caller-led storytelling and advocacy pipelines.

Essential Job Functions:

Program Oversight (approximately 50%)

  • Manage the day to day operations of caller follow-up programming, including the structure of phone, text, and email based communications

  • Along with the Director of Service Delivery and cross departmental collaborators, support the design, implementation, and evaluation of post-abortion care programs, such as Community Care Circles

  • Collaborate cross departmentally to support leadership development pipelines for CAF grantees, including storytelling and organizing opportunities

  • Support the development of caller-facing materials for community engagement pathways (e.g., pamphlets, web content)

  • Collaborate with other Program Managers where appropriate to incorporate caller feedback into program design

  • Serve as relief for Senior Support Coordinators as needed

  • Serve as primary Support Coordinator of last resort in the event that an assigned Support Coordinator or case manager is unable to work their shift or work with a specific client

Team Management (approximately 30%)

  • Supervise, coach, and support coordinator-level program staff

  • Lead onboarding, skill-building, and training related to helpline support coordination 

  • Facilitate regular coaching and case review sessions to ensure compassionate and consistent care

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2+ years of work experience leading a team, organization, or group through transformation or change 

  • 2+ years of continuous work experience in case management, customer service, social services, call center or related work 

  • Familiarity with and/or past attendance of CAF Community Circles programming or other post-abortion programming

  • Flexible approach to work and ability to effectively manage ambiguity in a dynamic work environment 

  • Excellent organization, time management, and detail orientation 

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and able to work with a significant amount of autonomy; strong problem solving skills 

  • Commitment to and understanding of reproductive justice and demonstrated experience supporting low-income communities and communities of color

  • Experience in assisting people with receiving services with compassion, kindness, and empathy  

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in leadership roles 

  • Ability to work within a small team effectively and make collaborative decisions 

  • Ability to lead and train staff, interns, students, and volunteers
